THE SOUND OF A GENERATION

Oasis – The Sound of a Generation
Few bands embody the 1990s in Great Britain more than Oasis. Founded in Manchester in 1991 by brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher, Oasis became one of the biggest rock bands of their time and, along with groups like Blur and Pulp, spearheaded the Britpop movement. With their energy, catchy melodies, and signature working-class charm, they became icons of English culture.
Songs like "Wonderwall," "Don't Look Back in Anger," and "Champagne Supernova" became anthems—not only in England, but throughout the world. With over 75 million records sold, Oasis is one of the most successful British bands of all time. Their rivalry with Blur and the quarrelsome personalities of the Gallagher brothers are now part of pop culture history.
Oasis is also a great way to learn English. Their lyrics are full of everyday expressions, Northern English slang, and cultural references that reflect real British life. Terms like "mad for it" or "cigarettes and alcohol" give learners an authentic insight into the language beyond the classroom.
In my private English lessons in Sangerhausen (or online), I use music and pop culture—including Oasis—to make the lessons more engaging and memorable. When grammar and vocabulary are linked to songs you already know, learning English becomes much more natural and fun.
Whether you're a fan of Oasis or just want to delve deeper into English culture, the band's music is the perfect soundtrack for your language trip.
